Why eBay Is A Bad Place To Buy Ram?

Omar Morales Like most people know eBay is full of counterfeit stuff. And in some cases people will not care if the item is counterfeit or not. If it looks genuine and is cheap they will buy it. Well for some items like handbags and sunglasses that may be ok (for some people).
But what a lot of people do not realize is that memory cards and computer ram are one of the most counterfeit items on eBay.
Memory Cards and computer ram are easy to make specially when some of the biggest distributors of counterfeit ones are the same Chinese companies working on contract for the original manufactures (e/g SanDisk, Lexar etc)
Well if the same guys that make the ones for the name brand are selling counterfeit its not the same just cheaper?
NO because in most cases they will cut corners. For example if a memory card take x amount of material for a 8 gb card to work at stated speed, temperature and storage capacity the counterfeit item may not use all of the necessary material or use a cheaper material to make it.
We all know that a class 6 card is better than a class 2 or 4. But a counterfeit memory card on eBay can said is a class 6 but actually be a class 2 no name brand card that had just been re-branded under a popular name and a higher speed.
Computer ram is also high on the counterfeit list. I don’t know but when you are looking to boost your computer performance why risk getting a knock off that will died or not performs as stated.
Same goes for memory card why risk loosing all the pictures you just took or had a low performing card on your shiny new camera?
My recommendation when looking for memory cards and computer ram is to get it from reputable sources.
For example:
Computer Sellers like Dell, Hp and Apple
Brick and Mortar Stores like BestBuy, Walmart, RadioShak and Frys
Online in reputable sites like Kingston.com, Crucial.com, Amazon.com (when shopping on Amazon I will stick with items offered by Amazon and not 3rd parties.
Other popular items that are high on the counterfeit list on eBay are:
Headphones
Sunglasses
Hard Drives
Motherboards
Watches
Handbags
Sport Cards
Computer Software
MP3 Players Specially iPods (and specially the shuffle)
I love shopping online and I use eBay from time to time but for specific low cost items. I rather shop at Amazon, jr.com, buy.com walmart.com and so on. eBay is more of a gamble.
