Omar Morales Craigslist is a good place to list your unwanted items and to find good deals. It also come with a set of challenges to both sellellers and buyers.
Today I will list five mistake sellers do when posting an ad.
1- Putting only a title with no description: A lot of people just put a title but when you click on it is just a blank page or will only include a phone number. Why should someone even bother calling someone to lazy or stupid to put a short description of what they are selling?
Don't be a lazy describe your item you don't get charge per words so the only excuse is laziness.
2 - Include a picture. Another big one that falls in the laziness category is not including a picture specially when selling a car or furniture. There are probably more cameras than people in this country with each cell phone having one. So if you are to lazy to put a picture your ad desrve to be skipped.
3 - Not providing contact information. A lot of people go through all the steps but forgot to list a phone number and disable emails. How the hell is a prospective buyer suppose to contact you?
Also the "NO EMAILS". Really? You are listing online were the primary means of communication is email and you want everyone to call you. Not everyone likes calling strangers and giving them thier phone number. Also buyers are right in front of thier computers sending and email is just a click away. Many of us will just skip you over. Get with the times specially when most phones have email access. This pretty much falls into the laziness category too.
4 - Comparing prices on eBay but selling on Craigslist. A lot of people forgot the basic of supply and demand. If you decide to sell locally and pay no fees then research your prices locally. A lot of you decide to see how much XY thing is selling for on eBay and assume the price applies to Craigslist.
Reality check. It do not. Why? Well on eBay you pretty much have a worldwide audience so there is more demand for what you are selling. The case is not the same on Craigslist were you are limited to a small amount of prospective buyers. Also a higher selling price on eBay takes into account auction and payment fees that are not present on CL. If you are going to sell on Craigslist do your research on Craigslist.
5 - Over posting: Wait at least a week before reposting your ad & don't forget to delete the old one. Continually posting the same ad is really annoying and it is SPAM.
It can really backfire.
If someone see your ad posted 20 times specially in a short period of time a couple of things may happen. First they may and should report you as a spammer and two assume you are really desperate to sell.
If you are to lazy or stupid to follow this very simple and common sense tips you should stick with your local newspaper ad or eBay. Craigslist may have a lot of dumb low ballers buyers but it also full of dumb sellers.
Don't be one of them.
